Verizon Wireless Selects OVS for Live Mobile Delivery of 2008 Presidential Debate

October 1, 2008 - Online Video Service, Inc. (OVS) announced today that the company was selected by Verizon Wireless to stream CBS’ live coverage of the September 26, 2008 U.S. Presidential debate to Verizon VCast customers. OVS provided video acquisition, encoding and streaming services to support the live Internet broadcast from Oxford, Mississippi.

“OVS is excited about the opportunity to partner on this project with Verizon Wireless,” said OVS CEO Tim Treanor. “Verizon Wireless and CBS have shown innovative leadership in providing this kind of live mobile programming to their customers. This debate is an important event for the American people. We are proud to help show how Internet video can be a powerful tool for voter participation in the electoral process.”

OVS’s video broadcast services were used for video signal acquisition, encoding and distribution to the Verizon VCast network. The OVS Broadcast Operations Center™ managed live encoding of the video signal for streaming to VCast customers. On the heels of this successful event, OVS will continue to provide acquisition, encoding and streaming services for Verizon Wireless.

In addition to providing capabilities for live broadcasting to mobile phones and devices, OVS also offers live Internet broadcasting and monitoring of events, conferences and meetings nationwide, satellite downlink and content delivery services.

Use of OVS’ signal acquisition and encoding service for the debate builds on the company's commitment to promote open and transparent government, and the importance of providing a range of communication tools to citizens and government alike.
